Teachers, mentors and Personal Development Coaches

How ISS thinks about the people who work with your child, and what that means from one school day to the next.

A different kind of educator

At the International School of Switzerland, our faculty is more than just a team of educators — they are mentors, innovators, and Personal Development Coaches dedicated to empowering every student to achieve their fullest potential. Our unique approach to faculty roles reflects our commitment to providing a holistic and transformative learning experience.

Our faculty members are selected not only for their academic qualifications but also for their ability to inspire and connect with students. They serve as coaches, guiding students through personalised learning journeys that focus on both academic excellence and personal growth. By fostering a supportive and collaborative environment, our faculty helps students develop the skills, mindset, and resilience needed for success in a rapidly changing world.

A named coach for every student

Every student has a named Personal Development Coach, with weekly, timetabled responsibility for progress, habits, confidence and direction.

The word that matters in that sentence is timetabled. Coaching is not a conversation that happens when something has gone wrong; it has a place in the week, the same way a lesson does. When you visit, ask to see where it sits in the timetable — it is a fair question, and the answer tells you whether a school means it.

Come and see them at work

A conversation in a corridor between lessons tells you more about a school than any page about its staff.

Questions about the teaching team

What is a Personal Development Coach?

A member of the faculty who guides a student through a personalised learning journey. Academic progress and personal growth are handled by the same person rather than split between a teacher and someone else.

How are teachers chosen?

On their academic qualifications and on their ability to inspire and connect with students. A candidate who has one without the other does not meet the standard.

Can we meet the people who would teach our child?

That is what a visit is for. Visits take place on ordinary school days rather than staged ones, so you see lessons in progress instead of a presentation about them. Book a visit and tell us which year group your child would join.
